I think you are somewhat correct.
It is more important to use your own work and if theses gurus can add something to it then good. Of course the market always needs to confirm.
IF Laundry turns out correct here, he runs the real risk of having too many followers which will start to kill his forecasts just like it did to Elliott Wave.
25 years ago when I starting using EW, the patterns here were simple and hard to get wrong. As that theory gained more and more recognition, the wave forms became more complex and more ambiguous, so that for most it is hard to make sense.
Placing your faith in someone elses work also makes you vulnerable to their mistakes and changes of mind plus we all know gurus have their hot spells and cold.
