Being a AKE shareholder my heart hopes Toyota can take 25% of the EV market as well. Whats going for Toyota is their manufacturing, ie their production and supply chain expertise. Something Tesla are battling through currently. This is where Toyota will nail it when they do start releasing model after model. Where they do fall down is in their tech and their ability to innovate. I'm not talking about a cool looking EV with bells and whistles but what the EV can do and how it integrates to peoples lives of the future. I'm talking about autonomous driving where the car is out their making the owner money whilst not in use. I'm talking about how the car allows you to become more productive and efficient humans, etc. These new, unrealised, benefits, will go a long way to offset any benefit of other vehicles. To a point where the main benefit will be that you can drive from point A to point B without paying for fuel. Toyota vehicles will get the perception of being old tech even though built immaculately. So who wants that Nokia that can only make calls and play snakes? Customers perceived usefulness will win out ultimately. If Tesla's are reliable enough, cheap enough, quick enough, it will be the usefulness that wins out. And that comes down to tech. To develop good tech there needs to be the right company culture to promote this. After decades of neglecting this culture I don't see Toyota being able to find it anytime soon unfortunately.

Yes, great points! I do think, however, that whatever "useful" tech Tesla has, in say 5 years' time, Toyota (and some others) will be hot on their tails, and perhaps only lag by a year anyway...? Imo if Tesla can do FSD and you allow you to robo-taxi your car while at work (some of us don't care for that, btw).... then toyota will work it out pretty quickly also, if it means the difference between thriving and collapsing. It will certainly be interesting to watch it all unfold! Cheers
