It's a bit hard to sugar coat something like that, and it's probably a better way of handling it then say what they did with Teva... how long was that trading halt for? Felt like weeks.

While I would have liked a bit more of an explanation, it's possible that Novartis kept their cards close and just pulled the pin without giving any indication that it was going to do so. These things tend to go up to a meeting of somesort where a business case is put forward, and a decision is made.. usually by those at higher level management that are trying to tick boxes and ensure anything they sign off on has a potential to positively impact their performance bonus.. usually that is linked to strategy.
