there may be a lot more advanced projects elsewhere but there is no project like this in Australia. MRD has the largest potential IAC deposit in the country.
Talking about ARU here is chalk and cheese
Differences:
ARU hard rock / MRD IAC
ARU 1,250 km to port / MRD 70 km
Hard rock Radioactive tailings vs IAC non-radioactive.
Capex and Opex higher for hard rock vs IAC
I will not talk down ARU and wish them well, but it's a pointless discussion to try and compare the potential. I wouldn't touch a hard rock REE project in Australia simply because of the difficulties in convincing governments, traditional owners and the environmental lobby groups that it can be done safely and with no impact to the environment. Regardless of how important REE are to this country and the world, IAC deposits are going to be more favourably considered than hard rock deposits.
Granted, MRD is speculative and I will repeat this as I've said it many times. It's a gamble. that's what investing in exploration and speculative projects is all about, but if I am going to gamble on anything then this is the one I have chosen.
Finally, if anyone is looking for short or medium term gains then MRD is not for you. This is a long term gamble, but a gamble like nothing else in this country when discussing REE
