I have pointed out before that Silviu (along with Arnie Caplan) was among the first to recognise that MPCs/MSCs are not stem cells. Our understanding of these cells has moved on dramatically since the turn of the century!
And MSB long ago stopped referring to itself as a stem cell or regenerative medicine company. In fact, there is no mention of stem cells in any recent presentation (except maybe in citations of old papers and of course embedded in the product names), nor any mention of regenerative effects of the cells (except perhaps indirectly via the SDF-1/VEGF pathway leading to neovascularisation in CHF).
So it is about time we joined Silviu and also stopped calling them stem cells and endowing them with regenerative powers. Only then might we be able to rationally assess their real potential.
