Yes, I do realise the difference between magnesium and manganese.
To start with magnesium is Mg and manganese is Mn.
Both use power to produce them. The point I'm making is that the price of power is important in producing many commodities.
True it takes more power to produce magnesium than manganese battery material. The fact is the cost of power makes it prohibitive to produce high energy requirement commodities in the EU.
As I explained before it will take EMN about 6,400 kWh to produce one tonne of Mn battery material.
EMN Czech Republic 6,400kWh x US$0.30/kWh = US$1,920/t
Asia Malaysia 6,400kWh x US$0.035/kWh = US$224/tonne
Why would any sensible person or company spend an extra US$1,700/t in power when it can be done in Asia at a fraction of the cost.
