Embassy seeks to identify Iraq body
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) has confirmed it is investigating whether a foreigner found dead in central Iraq could be one of two Australians allegedly kidnapped in the country.
Reports say the man's body was found in the Tigris River near where the Australians were said to have been abducted.
They suggest the man was tall and had blond hair.
DFAT says it has requested the Australian embassy in Baghdad to investigate the reports.
A group called the Horror Brigades of the Islamic Secret Army said earlier this week it had seized two Australians near Samarra and would execute them unless Australia withdrew its troops from Iraq within 24 hours.
