    My post was in response to Gofish100 who suggested the Indonesian authorities send them straight back to Sri Lanka. The obvious inference being that there would be no testing of genuine refugee status.

    I think your starving analogy is not a particularly good one - Australia does provide food aid to many countries where it is required so it is doing something about that particular problem.

    Australia takes at least 100,000 immigrants a year, many through dodgy hairdressing courses etc etc. So it can afford to let in some refugees. My point was that we should check people are refugees rather than just send them back to be killed.
