I missed the moderated post against mine, so there's no harm done. I would just like to clarify my standings on where I am. From what I have found with the majority of Indians, Vietnamese and the Srilankans is they are good law abiding citizens, that are hard working, studious and have done a lot in helping this country move forward. However, many of them have come here to get a way from the turmoil and the difficult lifestyle that is of these nations. We owe it to them and to ourselves to screen exactly who it is that we are allowing into this great country. And what it is that makes this country great is its freedom. The fact that we can still enjoy the beaches, enjoy camping without fear of having our tents robbed, and generally enjoy good communal harmony and spirit amongst ourselves is a testament to what it is that the others are so desperate have.
We cannot give that to all, as there will come a point of no return where the realisation that a major error had been made that cannot be reversed. What if our nation ends up with pockets of ethic chaos, where micro wars occur over territorial rights? Then what. Is that what we want for these individuals? Is that what we want for our children? It's not being racist, but simply a matter of being realistic. And unless you're of Aboriginal descent that I guess then you are also of an ethnic back ground as well.
The situation with the boat people is very difficult for all involved, as it appears that having children on board was strategic with that little girl's speech appearing clever and well rehearsed. We cannot encourage any more to come here searching for what they want, due to the extremely high death toll. They must go through the process that is fair for all involved. If they are genuine than it will be up to the authorities to make the final call, and I hope they do the right thing.
The bottom line is if there are no documentation of who these people are, and if there is no guarantee that they are not of a security threat to our nation then the hard line must be the only way.
