Democracy, although mooted by the Greeks 2500 years ago, is a recent invention and our civilisations have not caught up with it yet, IMO. This doubly complicates the issue of Western Capitalist Democracies where the right to vote every 3 or 4 years for a representative who is expected to promote our interests in Parliament is not what a reasonable person would call Democracy when the vital and ongoing process of living and earning a living is anything but democratic. Perhaps Workers Co-Ops are the closest we can get to Democracy at work but of course that conflicts with Capitalism; so IMO, it leaves us with a snag: Do we prioritise Capitalism over Democracy or vice versa , particularly in cases where one is in conflict with the other

I favour the Swiss system personally. That is the closest humanity has yet come to true democracy and keeps administration very close to the people it serves. It has also kept the peace for centuries between ethnic and religious groups who were formerly at each tother's throats. A good model for eg. Afghanistan?
