The DRC subject to validation of the EITI process from January 1, 2022

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is subject, from Saturday 1 January 2022, to the validation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) process.

This decision was taken following the presentation of the state of play of the implementation of the EITI-DRC process which took place the day before in Kinshasa.

“This process could take until March and the results could be known by the end of the second half of 2022.

The secretariat for the international EITI will assess the progress made by the DRC in the direction of the process. the implementation of the EITI ”, explained the National Coordinator of the EITI-DRC, Jean-Jacques Kayembe.

This process was launched around the world since 2002 and the DRC made its accession speech in 2005.

189 mining contracts have been published since 2019 by the EITI.

The validation process is part of the efforts undertaken to perfect this implementation beyond 13 corrective measures.

Three components enter into the validation of the EITI process.

It's about stakeholder engagement, transparency, and results and impact.

“The whole community will at least know how our natural resources are being managed.

Internationally, we are going to gain credit.

Which we will be more and more frequent, ” continued Mr. Kayembe.

Speaking of facts and results, from 2018 to 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, 6.5 billion dollars produced by the mining sector have bailed out the public treasury, according to the coordinator.

“Our country’s mining is known and we know the results".

"Since July 2020 to date, we have discovered and published 189 contracts, amendments and annexes, ”said Jean-Jacques Kayembe.

Kasaï-central: Félix Tshisekedi plans to build a football stadium in Kananga

Arrived in Kananga this Friday, December 31, 2021, the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi has promised to build a football stadium in Kananga in Kasai-central, in the coming days.

This promise was made following the cries of young people who, during his address, strongly requested a stadium.

These young people, who said they were tired of the Government’s previous promises, asked for the involvement of President Tshisekedi, so that the construction of a stadium in Kananga could become a reality.

As a reminder, during the funeral of African football record holder Ndaye Mulamba dit Mutumbula on December 26, 2019 in Kinshasa, the Congolese government promised the construction of a 12,000-seat stadium in Kasai-central, its province of origin.

This in order to honor the memory of this icon, for his service to the nation.

But today, 2 years later, that promise remains a myth.
