These kind of people don't make big mistakes. This is his biggest deal ever, he's paying a 30% premium and it's one of the most expensive rail operators there are in US (according to Bloomberg's P/E measures). There must be something unique about BNSF to justify paying such a premium as well as industry in general.
A month ago I bought a frozen meal (mashed potatoes with beef) from supermarket (cost about $4) and later noticed on the box it said "Made in US from beef imported from Australia and New Zealand".
So someone thinks it's worth shipping our beef to US, processing it there, adding some sauce and potatoes and shipping it back here. Like we don't have any Australian grown potatoes here.
My point is there is a lot of irrational behaviour on the world stage and while that's continuing, energy will be wasted and transportation will be in demand.
