Does anyone know where the canard of the Battery Corridor started? Probably from some lithium mining venture with nothing else going for it.
The only Battery Corridor I know is the one that stretches across three continents, from Australia to China to North America. Seems to work well enough for Tesla. Just weeks ago we were discussing how cheap it is to freight 10,000 gallons of water to a drilling site. All things considered, proximity to battery manufacturers is the least important feature of a proposed mine.
By weight, lithium is about 7% of a typical lithium-ion battery. If you’re going to build a battery plant, you should be concerned with where the other 93% is sourced. Not that there is much hope of a battery plant being built in Arizona soon. True, the Canadian investors with an American stationed 100 miles south of the border have applied for Biden bucks to build one in Buckeye. But we’ll believe that one when we see it. And they could source all the lithium they need from the nearby Salton Sea geothermal project, then sell it as “green.”
