There could definitely be some correlation here and if you think about it, shorting only started to increase not long after Van Eck was done with the buying. We had a quick spike in short positions from 24Aug to 31st Aug followed by a one day quick drop and then a steady increase ever since.
Could Van Eck be the culprit contributor to supply the shorts? In a way, I hope that is the case because if it is, then the supply might be just running out.
