It would be good to get everyone to brain storm and create the fairest and best system possible however I wonder that is even achievable. By having an 'opposition' we have a party of whingers (both sides) that are interested in destruction of the governing party more so than good alternative government. BS promises are made by both sides which they know they can't deliver on. By having good independent representation that should 'keep the bastards honest' but we know that it can be a case of the tail wagging the dog. The senate does usually work well so bills can't simply be forced through.
Now as for that fairer system, that would be prejudiced by whether you dna is socialist leaning or conservative leaning. Once a decision is made many people become barrackers for their team and will never change. Politics has become about popularity rather than substance which is why Morrison will most likely lose. People won't so much vote Labor but vote anti LNP. Can't say I blame them but people should be more interested in what they are voting for not what they are voting against imo.
So as for the 'you beaut' system of government that has a social conscience whilst encouraging free markets, entrepreneurship and fair reward for risk?
I think it could be done but won't. The same reason as we want our borders strong but want a human kindness to refugees. We somehow can't find the right middle ground. Perhaps all we need is a panel of elected arbitrators whose sole job is to decide on 'fairness' and whether it would pass the pub test.
How we treat the less fortunate whether refugees, the sick or the elderly really defines us as a nation imo and in that area we are failing miserably. A society that can have 1% of the worlds population have a greater wealth than the remaining 99% needs a major overhaul so I think the issues are actually far bigger than just the issues in Australia. How do we manage that in a free market society? Beats me!

Doesn't the Protestant Work Ethic say reward for hard work & not for risk taking?

The Risk/Reward equation is more about gambling whether that be on the stock market
or on the GGs !
