This idea a bit different but its growing on me.

I think that once the research and development phases of the CETO III deployment off Garden Island is completed (i.e. CETO III proven), CWE will ditch the 5MW Garden Island project and inject that effort into an overseas project - probably reunion island (although we dont really know enough about the current status of other sites, including Ireland).

Why would you raise $37mill for an uneconomic 5MW site without a 50MW one to move on to. That made sense while the prospect of a 50MW one was on the table, but without it, why do it? Why dilute the shareholding with no future? Better to prove the commercial scale elsewhere with more support. The 12mill WA grant just isnt incentive enough. There will be better opportunities elsewhere. Of course CWE will talk up Garden Island until something else is signed off on, but i bet the wheels are moving already - probably in the direction of France (Reunion Island).

The EDF/French connection will just be too strong. Another company DCIS(from memory) is also involved on Reunion Island, so it has the sort of weight wielded by OPT's Australian conglomerate. It will be hard to top as a location and the French govt pumped in $5mill for research on the site, without the need for the 3 for 1 or 2 for 1 bollocks that our govts do. There's a strong commitment there.

I'll have to brush up on the detail but CETO III units were going to be deployed in Reunion next year anyway. That's my tip on where 2010 will lead us.

    Parlez vous Francais?
