Some doctors are saying that you don't get enough D from the sun.
Cod liver oil should work, that is probably how the Eskimos get their D when they have dark skin and weak sunlight.
D is cheap and safe.
I read an article by one doctor who said that taking 1000iu of D a day would not help much.
He said that he tests his patients and if they are low he puts them on 20,000iu a day for 12 weeks, he then retests and if the levels are up he puts them on a maintenance level of 5000iu/day.
Vitamin D can mobilise a lot of calcium and for that reason you need to take K2 as well to send the calcium into the bones/teeth etc and out of the cardiovascular system.
My wife and I have been taking D and K2 and Mg for years, she recently had a cardiac calcium score done and the result was zero.
My nephew who lives in Thailand has been taking D, zinc etc for 3 years has been expose to 8 people with covid and he can't get it, he has still been sleeping with his wife while she has been really sick with covid.
Obviously we should be eating a good diet as you suggest but it can't hurt to supplement to ensure that you have the proper levels to keep you well.
I began supplementing many years ago when I realised that our soils have become depleted and our foods don't contain the required amount of minerals.
For my own veggi garden I always use some rock powders and trace elements to make sure that there are plenty of natural minerals available for my veggies. Most veggies are grown with just N,P and K. hydroponically grown veggies are just empty carbohydrates.
