Well let's break this down.
Assume this guy gets found guilty by a jury of his peers and sentenced to die by firing squad. He will appeal of course, which he has every right to do under the law.
(And before we go any further, no we don't have the death penalty here so I'm using the American model).
Naturally he won't be able to afford the best legal representation so it gets provided to him- paid for by you and me. And of course seeing as this is a capital case he will only get the very best legal expertise- not some street bum off a park bench. These guys (and girls) can charge $1,000 per hour and most likely they won't be working alone.
If there's two of them, that's $80,000 per week- assuming they only work a standard 40 hour week. Per month?
More than three hundred thousand dollars. And of course if we extend it out to a year, we're well into seven figures. As you can see, having someone rotting away in a jail cell is far, far cheaper than the costs involved in putting someone to death.
