I am not smart enough to do screen shots or internet page links. For these serious deficiencies in my skill set, Gen Xers call me stupid. I can live with that.
But lets get some hard facts recorded.
I subscribe to independant research house Lonsec. According to their data sets here are key facts and please check your own before dismissing those that follow:
Inception Net Compound Return MSCI Total
Date Since Inception Return (Aud)
Platinum International Fund C Class Retail Fund 30.4.95 11.8% 7.8%
Magellan Global Fund (Open Class) 01.7.07 12.0% 8.2%
FWIW as a paid subscriber to Morningstar research, their most recent note to investors dated 13th January, 2022 had a fair value estimate of $38, down 25% from their previous valuation.
I will not engage with the geniuses here that may quote any number of alternative indices or funds probably with different start dates, different asset composition or different something, to justify their view. The MSCI has been the most widely regarded international fund benchmark accepted in every country.
Notwithstanding the index question, as a seed investor in each fund, and thereafter as an anal DCA investor, net returns for 26 years from PIF have resulted in a return (on capital invested) of over 15x. To date, the same strategy for MGF has produced 6x. Not quite as good as my CSL or PDN (in the naughties and 2020's) or even my SYD and anyone remember Soul telecom or M2? All pretty damn good but only PTM and MGF required no effort, had no drawdown greater than 20% in any year and was always diversified by country and industry with downside risk protection.
These are my actual results and I know very well the performance claims of most competitors. Statistics will permit any starting point which can result in any performance outcome one desires. In my case, I was there at the beginning, am still there today no rubbery stats just facts.
I would request posters never accuse me of not knowing my facts, I have lived and breathed this industry before many here even saw the light of day. Old has never meant stupid until recent times powered by the infallible guidance of google.
