Australia was the first developed country to copy the virus:

A lab in China was the first, but did not share its discovery with the WHO. However, the same lab released images of the genetic sequence of the disease, which helped scientists at the Doherty Institute copy it."
China could have been more helpful from the start. It was Australia who properly helped the world at the start of the pandemic. They would have compared the virus they acquired from the patient with the genetic sequence provided by China to verify it's identity.
