This doesn't make sense. Lindsay Tanner just admitted on ABC Lateline that boat people are no automatically given refugee status but in fact are people who have been rescued in Indonesian waters at the request of Indonesia, and our government is focused on complying with the law to resolve the issue. This is in stark contrast of all the media reports about deals being given to the boat people to process them as refugees. He even stated clearly these reports are not to be believed. So, what the hell is going on here? Who is telling untruths? The media or the government?
