CARNARVON Petroleum and Pan Orient Energy say testing operations on the BR-3D1 well at the Bo Rang B oil field, onshore Thailand, has confirmed the field is commercial.

The well, the first horizontal appraisal well at the field, flowed at 700 barrels of oil per day from a volcanic target at a depth of 446m.

“This is a significant increase in flow rate from the nearby BR-2ST1 deviated Bo Rang B discovery well which had a cased hole completion and flowed at 35 barrels per day,” Carnarvon said.

“These results once again confirm the successful application of horizontal drilling and other techniques that were utilised during the drilling of this well, and highlight the shallow zone potential within the Bo Rang and L44-W areas of the L44 concession.”

Carnarvon went on to say the JV was planning to drill three additional horizontal appraisal wells targeting the Bo Rang B field before the end of the year.

Operator Pan Orient is currently drilling the BR-4D1 well at a depth of 100m.

A further nine multi-well drill pad locations are undergoing environmental review by the Thailand government with approval anticipated in January, Carnarvon added.

Meanwhile over at the L44-W field, further work at the recently drilled L44-W4ST1 well has been completed and the well is producing oil at a rate of 650bpd on a 90-day test.

Also on the L44-W field, the L44-W3ST1 horizontal appraisal well drilled to test the down dip extent of the L44-W oil accumulation has been unsuccessful.

“Despite oil observed at surface while drilling through a highly fractured volcanic reservoir, the well was unsuccessful, flowing only formation water at the end of the test,” Carnarvon explained.

A sidetrack from the existing well bore is planned to be drilled early next year.

Over at the Si Thep oil field, testing operations on the newly discovered 9m thick sandstone at 870m on the Si Thep-2 deep exploration well has started.

Carnarvon said the sandstone reservoir lay beneath a shallower oil-producing sandstone reservoir discovered by the previous JV’s Si Thep-1 well and produced good oil shows while drilling.
