Most of the contracts with the large mining houses will be US$ denominated anyway wether they take place in AUS, CAN etc.

When you value an asset (as an australian) you have to convert back to our dollars i could not give a hoot about how BLY performened in US$ because they are meaningless to me, i and any Aus investor should be interested in Aus returns hence the need to convert cashflow, earnings and profit back to Aus$ to do your valuation.

Re brokers i dont know what adviser advised you to sell but i would fire them pretty quick. I was put onto BLY by mine at 15c and have traded since then.
