As the saying goes, it's darkest just before dawn.

According to my own big picture there's an 18.6 year economic cycle, corroborated by economic data going back 200 years in the US and 400 years in Holland, and corresponding with the 18.6 year cycle of lunar precession. About 14 years up followed by about 4 years down, the latest 'down' being the GFC. Basically, all the profit from increased production ends up in increased real estate prices for the relatively few, rather than - say - the whole world living in comfort with a 3-day working week for those who aren't workaholics.
