3) Adopt the Bradley plan to turn the rivers of the North East inward, replenish the Murray and develop a food bowl. This would require a government willing to stare down the local interests of those who love the tinkle of the rivers flowing into the sea.
An absurd pipe dream!!!!! The ONLY river capable of providing water EVERY year is the Burdekin. The other rivers you hear about flooding only do so intermittently. This bit:the tinkle of the rivers flowing into the sea. is insulting. Should we allow our rivers to be raped so that Victorians and Sth Australians can enjoy the tinkle of the rivers flowing into the sea.?
By the way, you don't have to send Burdekin water south at EXTREME cost for agriculture. You just have to concede southern jobs and promote the Burdekin Delta as the food bowl. You must concede that it would be far more economic to send the produce south rather than the water. Burdekin Dam Stage II includes a hydro scheme and again it is cheaper to transmit power generated than water, particularly considering the transmission lines already exist while the (VERY big) canals don't. Regional parochialism rules over logic, otherwise the brown coal generators would already be phased out.
