Ther are a number of reasons for the high hospitalisation/death rate in Ukraine are:

1. People waited to long before seeking medical help, relying instead on home remedies. Australian case studies showed that those who sought medical help early had a better chance of survival.

2. Antivirals were locked up in centralised locations and unavailable except for confirmed laboratory cases (which took 3-4 days).

3. Very poor medical system - mirrors the Russian one. Doctors are poorly paid and hospitals poorly equiped. The lack of PPE is evident in that 3,500 medical professionals fell ill, of whom 300 were hospitalized and 4 died.

4. Initially, poor diagnosis.
