You're missing the point and so are some others. It was voted unanimously at the AGM so they've honoured it - by legal right they have to, that's how public companies work.
I think it's also important to get the brand locked in and in as many faces as possible, especially at this early stage while they're building momentum.
Why delay it and do it later in the piece? Alphabet Inc isn't how Google came about anyway, Google (which should be a dictionary term) was the brand everyone knew.
