don't you think habitat destruction is an important issue starburst? having biodiversity? For these reasons alone I think doubling the global population would be negative. Even from a selfish standpoint (as humans) there is a risk that widespread species extinction will have adverse consequences for our own well being as there are inter-relationships between species. Should we all stop eating fish, after all wild fish catches across many varieties are unsustainable...even fish farms need to feed protein so that isn't the perfect answer. Should we all become vegetarian in order to sustain a higher population in the future?

I think quality of life in generations to come would be a great deal better if we can find an equilibrium between our population and the consumption of finite resources. It doesn't mean culling our existing population, that is abhorrent and personally I would always value people over all else, but in terms of having education and opportunity these things prove very important in slowing population growth.

    Quality of life over quantity.
