I must emphasise that I have zero experience in cell biology and functions other than curiosity to try and build my own understanding.​

I was going down a research rabbit hole this morning.


I was looking at this paper on FTO and cervical cancer and noticed the following:

My thought bubble was then that "MYC" naming relates to the term myocardial (although with later investigation this naming might just be co-incidental, https://cancerdiscovery.aacrjournals.org/content/5/10/1024#ref-2 ).

MYC was nevertheless a rabbit-hole I was going down.

I then found this paper published in 2020:

The above contrasts with the findings here about the positive effects of FTO over-expression.

(Note - This makes me wonder if periodic modulating / pulsing of FTO expression levels has some kind of effect stimulating regeneration of heart cells .. we don't yet have any preclinical data on a regenerative effect, we just have data on a protective effect)
