The National Grid works on continuous competitive bidding, to turn the in-situ coal gasification process up and down at the will of the Electricity market does not seem like an idea that can work. Coal fired power stations and take a few hour to get going, much longer from a cold shut down, gas off the mains just takes minutes. All those carbon options work with fixed volume combustion chambers and input characteristics. Wind and solar are pretty much instant. ISG works like so in a moving underground cavity not something easy to turn down or off reliably I suspect. Steady state ISG makes more sense and so does UREA as the main game here
