Neal Adams is actually a cartoon artist but has studied this for many decades. Look up Sam Carey's latter work if you are interested. He was a very famous Australian geologist.
Theories of the Earth and Universe, is a good book to read, may not be entirely true (he speculates towards the end) but a very good out line of the case for the general public.
