Fertilizer .............brother from Narrogin was saying he has been quoted for fertilizer for this season - $1700 per ton. Last season was around $700. And that quoted price is if he books and pays a deposit now. However, when the time comes to collect your fertilizer, it might have gone down, but your locked in at the higher price. One year, a guy walked away from a $100,000 deposit as he could get it much cheaper from another supplier, despite losing the 100,000.
Some big time farmers in dodgy rainfall areas are talking about not even putting a crop in. They had bumper crops the season just gone. Why risk the likes of a million dollars on fertilizer is their thinking.
Brother does mainly oaten hay, around 30,000 small squares. He has what's known as a Bale Baron which puts the bales into 21 bale packs. (just over 1/2 a ton). All handling is via forks (telly handler etc). Delivers to Perth stockfeeds (South of).
