@Joannie - I agree with your husband - to a large extent!
Last night I watched a bunch of super-males fight it out on the Rugby field (Mauri -v- Indigenous - Mauri won) - it was riveting stuff - amazing athletic feats performed almost every minute, nay second, and not one sexual thought came to my mind as i was watching this astounding display of masculine prowess and endurance.
I have male friends, or more like acquaintances, who are far removed from this, who play the piano beautifully, who cook and who are gay and they do want to be so desperately 'accepted' as normal by the rest of society.
This couple where I only know one partner, are really useful to their aging parents and the rest of their family - and I have observed that a number of times.
I do not think homosexuality is a matter of choice and if you had ever met an elderly, but lonely gay man (there seem to be fewer gay women ?!) you would realise how tragic some of their lives truly are.
Homosexuality has always been around and could then - in the days of old - not have been due to environmental circumstances, as the world was then still 'clean'. Hence male homosexuality, particularly when young, was accepted by societies such as the Greek and the Roman - however, in an older man, it was seen as not becoming, or a vice.
There is now some thinking around male homosexuality, that a woman, when carrying a male child in her womb, produces a hormone or some substance which is 'defensive' to the intruder - as the 'male' is seen as a foreign body by her system. Particularly when a woman has produced a number of male children, that mechanism gets stronger and the youngest or younger child is often affected by that. Not necessarily making him homosexual, but giving him more female characteristics.
Men and woman, both show traits of each other's sex in the way we think feel, even look. Some of it caused by a tough environment.
Humans - along with all other living things - are infinitely adaptable to their environment - a lot of us 'in the West' now live in a 'soft' environment - just think about that!!!
Maybe homosexuality is an adaptation to our increasing numbers, i.e. it is preferable to have humans with less fertility who do not seek out the other sex to reproduce, thus helping to keep our numbers down and performing a service to the whole of humanity??
Be happy, who - whatever you are -
