It's very hard to know but at first glance it looks 'similar'.

AZJ observed today in its half yearly that it's not just weather that adversely affects volumes railed (such as Maitland-Hexham NSW floods, low-lying areas subject to inundation) but also (as we know from WHC) mine production problems.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation states in its 2021 Hunter Valley rail capacity study:

    Rail operations
At 2021 contracted volumes and train sizes, an
average of around 65 loaded trains need to be operated
each day of the year, or one train every 22 minutes.
Capacity planning makes provision for this number of
trains to peak at up to 87 per day, though in practice
capacity exists for this to peak at even higher rates.

Closer to Newcastle's Kooragang Island and Carrington, 'bunching' can occur if there are delays with trains being admitted to the rail yards.

As at 1310 AEDT, there were 21 coal trains (some loaded, others empty) moving (or stopped to cross - be passed by - another) between Islington Junction (near Broadmeadow in inner Newcastle NSW) and Muswellbrook, a minority of which are WHC's.

There don't seem to be any untoward delays.
