yes, protect your capital, particularly as you get closer to retirement . Young investors however have more bull cycles left in the share market to make up big losses from a nasty correction. Close to retirement you don’t want a big hit on your portfolio , your working days are working over and no opportunity to top up with salary . During the GFC 2008 , baby boomers who had planned to retire that year, were forced to stay at work, to make up life changing losses in the superannuation savings . I wouldn’t be ploughing too many speculative shares into my SMSF at any time quite frankly .
