No: daily deaths in the US are not at highs. Highs were last year in Jan. This year's high was lower and deaths are dropping:
And we don't have to extrapolate from death rates to see that hospitalisations are dropping quite quickly and at a faster rate than last year. We can see this directly:
And note that death usually follows hospitalisation. So that death rates should drop rapidly following plummeting hospitalisations.
