Hold a core holding and trade the rest. If the shorters and traders are harvesting small price movements there's nothing stopping you from playing the game too. But it's hard to make money for small/retail holders. We pay brokerage on every transaction so we lose on the buy and we lose again on the sell, and then pay capital gains tax on whatever is left. And although a 10% swing seems large you would have to buy and then sell $100k worth of stock to make $1k before your brokerage and tax come out.

You can use the "becoming" and "ceasing" announcements as laggy signals. A "becoming" announcement approximates the transition from buyer to seller. A "ceasing" announcement will be close to the time they switch from selling to buying. The signal is laggy because they don't have to announce immediately when the change occurs.
