LOL when I worked on the mines as a trades assistant all the trades wanted me as their TA, I knew how to keep out of their way and would anticipate what they needed without them asking ie what tool they need next ect
It take a bit of tack to working with people that have far more experience and some don't like to be questioned, so tread carefully, ask why they are doing it that way, say could it be done this way ect so you are not questioning their ability but just trying to be help full. Confrontation is counter productive.
Think some people/trades ect have always done things one way so don't bother looking at other solutions. When I was running a Marina SECWA then government electricity wanted all the wiring on a jetty enclosed. An electrical firm wanted to charge $15k to take out all the wiring and put it through conduit, I look at it and suggested that since the wiring was in a steel channel section we just put a cap on the channel and thus wiring would be enclosed. The consulted with SECWA and the approved it, only cost $1500
