    If you are pro-AGW then of course you would say that and I was expecting a response such as yours, a typical Al Gore or Kevin Rudd response.

    Of course the simple answer is that

    a) population has increased significantly and we occupy a much greater area of earth. It's the old "if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it does it make a sound?" If there's a large tidalwave in 1100 in a place with no population does it count?

    b) and going on from point a nowadays we have satellites, internet, cameras and all kinds of instruments to measure these events. 1000-2000+++ years ago there was nothing of this kind. How many events went unrecorded?

    Now we know everything within 5 minutes. Back then someone had to a) been around to witness it and b) able to leave evidence for future generation.
