I can answer this, if you are honestly interested, but what she did was complex so I need a few lines to explain.
Grace Tame got the Australian of the Year award because she is responsible for overturning a law which prevented sexual assault victims from being named.
While the intentions for that original law were good, in practice this meant that sexual assault victims were prohibited from speaking publicly about their experiences.
The net result was terrible: without being able to hear from sexual assault victims, the next generation of children couldn't be educated about how to avoid common grooming techniques from sexual predators, and legislation couldn't really be intelligently designed by lawmakers.
Grace Tame went all the way, got the legislation amended so that law was removed.
Every sexual assault victim in Tasmania has more freedom now because of her. They have the freedom to choose to speak out, or the freedom not to. They have the ability to choose, all because of Grace.
I expect those who believe in more freedoms from government overreach, those with liberal ideals and especially small "L" liberals and right wingers like myself to respect both what she did and how hard it was to achieve.
Anyone who would like to prevent child abuse should also approve of her work.
I definitely applaud what she has done. It's a pity many here don't - unlike others, I don't think HotCopper is filled with child molesters, just many who are ignorant on what they are commenting about.
