Correct, this was established so smaller European countries can't be invaded bigger one (notably Russia) given what happened after the Cold War. However, Ukraine isn't part of NATO so the other European countries in the UK, Germany, etc will need a military respond as allies of Ukraine and not as NATO but combined will they be as strong as Russia to win the war, probably not so they still need the assistance of the US......Putin and Russia know this war isn't winnable if it's against UK, Germany, etc and US. IMO, this is all flexing which Putin has done in the past and only just 4 years ago, unless he really is crazy trying to fight an unwinnable war.
