Not sure why the current coup leader cannot stand for president if he steps down from his current role.
Frank Bainimarama led the coup in Fiji as the military leader and then became president and has been in that role for 13 years. There were all kinds of sanctions and grumblings at the time, but everyone got over it and he has brought stability to Fiji. Why was there a coup in Fiji. Well, the Indians had out-bred the native Fijians by a considerable margin, they were breeding like rabbits and could now control the parliament via the one person-one vote, so the native Fijians (via their military) wanted to protect their culture and history, so the coup happened. These are complex issues.

Letting Russian mercenaries in, while kicking out the French government troops, was a really BIG mistake. Mercenaries fight for money, and nothing else. Two thirds of the country is now out of the government's hands. Now why would a military coup leader be in cahoots with Russian mercenaries - just think about it. Are mercenaries corruptable, damn right, they'll work for the highest bidder. Are military coup leaders corruptable - is the pope a Catholic?

    What a debacle.

At least all mining operations in the lower third of the country don't seem to have been affected, which is good for FFX and Leo.
