It is hard to determine the veracity of the various estimates that have been spruiked. Many may just be calculating thickness x area x their estimates for reservoir parameters for those depths, without knowing much more. I don't doubt that it is absolutely massive though. It is typical for big companies to only release in-place numbers until way further down the line. Lots of elements come into recovery factors, so having only one well makes them very shy in calculating a recoverable figure. Something this big (ie 600sqkm) is going to need several appraisal wells before they start releasing recoverable numbers. Up until then we can probably do what everyone else does and wet-finger it with 30%. Yes, exciting for the Namibians.
