If he only wanted that buffer then perhaps thats an option? What happens to the rest of Ukraine on the northern side which borders Russia? It's looking like Vlad is after total control of Ukraine, and if stories are true he has a kill list of officials. He's obviously wanting to replace the Govt with a Patsy one.
In saying that I really don't see this finished yet? The advance from all reports is stalling, and more arms are on the way, particularly anti tank and anti aircraft weaponry.... another week or so and it might be a bit clearer.
