IMO it is justifiable and permissible to invade a country in order to protect a large number of people who are being kidnapped, tortured or killed by another group and the government is either complicit or powerless to stop it. It has nothing to do with the political persuasion. Recent examples would be Rawanda, Yugoslavia and Cambodia to name a few.

Here we have Russia falsely claiming that the Ukrainian government are "drug addicts" and "terrorists" engaging in "genocide" without providing a single scrap of evidence as justification for launching a war on a peaceful sovereign state from whom they had already illegally annexed territory.

It's international gangster behaviour by a autocratic rogue state ruled by a person who increasingly appears to be mentally ill. Hopefully the Russian people will recognise that he is unfit to be in charge of even the remote control for the TV. I also happen to think it would be justifiable for NATO to declare Ukraine a "no fly zone" and enforce it if the Ukranian government requested it.
