The seductive thing about conspiracy theories is that they allow someone who has a chip on their shoulder over their intellect to suddenly feel smart. You just come up with a rudimentary and fairly simple formula, explain how all the 'people who think they are so clever' have actually been 'brainwashed by the MSM', and you can just apply it over and over again. Any person who buys into the 'secret information' is automatically one of the smartest guys in the room, part of a select group that has special knowledge.

1/ Tell a lie, make it sound plausible and present it simplistically. Back it by 'evidence' which is essentially just a mish-mash of repetition utilising various dubious sources.
2/ The lie presents as the truth, and anyone who repudiates the lie is either part of the conspiracy, or has been 'brainwashed by the MSM / government'.
3/ The lie is now hermetically sealed in a protective bubble. Anyone who tries to attack the lie is instantly discredited (see above). The lie is spread willing by the 'smart guys'.

Since the 'smart guys' are primarily interested in the feeling of intellectual superiority provided by the 'special knowledge' that only they and their ilk understand - unlike the dumb lefties / sheeple / commies / rino's etc - they don't care if the lie is at some stage exposed as lie. Water off a ducks back. There is always a fresh lie being propagated to give them that special feeling of intellegence that they have always craved.
