They want Ukraine not to join NATO so arms can’t be moved to their Ukraine boarder. It’s that threat that motivates Russia as they see actions of the West, particularly since Obama, as threatening their security. To them Ukraine joining is a very aggressive move. A 50 year guarantee, making Ukraine a neutral country, would remove the conflict that has been going on since 2014. Even in Ukraine there are pro Russian areas and as you move closer to the western side more pro NATO. Also conflict between c20 and c21 thinking about government is a conflict. Hence the 50 years would allow past leaders born in the c20 to die out and let the leaders of tomorrow resolve the situation. Unfortunately the USA thinking goes back to the 1850’s where the USA established the belief they are the only power equipped to lead the world. It has lasted until the present and now we are seeing a shift in the power struggles and all this conflict is part of the struggle to establish world dominance.
