Talga have applied for a Exploration and Environmental permitting to mine 100,000 tonnes graphite ore for 24 years. This application was submitted in May 2020.

Then Talga was asked to submit a EU Natura2000 permitting application in February 2021.

Certain risks have been identified as a requirement for water discharge management and control for Mining infrastructure in context with the potential to impact on the Natura 2000 site (Torne and Kalix Rivers). These areas are being addressed as part of the Environmental Management Plan as the project develops.

Talga has to prove that all mining water waste does not go into the ground and end up in the rivers and lake that is 1km away. Also that the mine does not have waist dust in the air that end up in the rivers.

This Natura2000 legislation and water framework directive is from the EU.

Leading edge materials is saying they don't think they need to provide this Natura2000 permit and is appealing the decision in the court.

Tobias Persson a Swedish government representative is saying there is a law change proposal coming by Oct 2022 to have the Natura2000 permit requirement removed. So you only need the Exploration and Environmental permitting.

So hopefully this law change proposal can get accepted sometime in the future.
