Tim Flannery said a few years ago in his book "the Future Eaters" that our ultimate carrying capacity was 10 or 12 mil, I can't remember which.
He was called an expert, had all the figures and was wheeled out to make pronouncements on population.
Either way it's still quite a jump to 18 m, and we are now 22m so that is 4m over.
Perhaps we will have a smaller slice of the pie as there are more of us, or the pie
may get bigger. Pies do sometimes.
I will believe that the world is truly overpopulated when the last military is disbanded and the last city is permacultured and the last corrupt bureaucrat or president is hanged and people are still starving.And no, I'm not a catholic.
