I make no claim to any special expertise and I am certainly not qualified to offer financial or professional advice in these matters - as you said, the charts are pretty! That said, you are welcome to my perspectives!
I hope the chart below which assumes BHP made a high on Thurs, Dec3 helps. It shows what a possible BHP short trade might look like atm [Risk to Reward Ratio with entry points etc shown in green]. The chart features 19 significant recent price plunges for BHP.
I guess we generally concede that on average the ratio of price rises to falls is roughly 50:50. If we then only consider downside the chart suggests 14 of 19 downside trades will fail before $38.33 [ie. 5 of 19 will fall below $38.33].
So, re $37, my Maths suggest [half of 5/19] or about 13% assuming 50:50 for rises & falls.
